Session 1 – Introduction
This session first introduces the Operation and Use Risk Assessment course for Amusement Rides and Devices explaining course content and objectives. The session then provides an explanation of some basic Safety Principles, who the Industry Stakeholders are and what the Safety Life Cycle is all about.

Session 2 – Standards
This session explores global regulations and standards impacting amusement ride safety. It explains the difference between regulations and standards and reviews the frameworks in different regions of the world. The last part highlights the work of certification bodies and introduces ISO 12100 as the foundational risk assessment standard.

Session 3 – Global Standards
This session explains ten essential terms used in an Operation and Use Risk Assessment, using a driving-to-work analogy. The session further explains the difference between a DRA (Design Risk Assessment) and an OURA. It concludes with an overview of the risk assessment process as outlined in ASTM F3598, preparing the attendee for the upcoming sessions.

Session 4 – RA-Process, Part 1
This session introduces the first part of the Risk Assessment process, focusing on Pre-Requisites and Hazard Identification. Key topics covered in this session include forming a risk assessment team, defining the scope, gathering the necessary input information, before identifying tasks and potential hazards.

Session 5 – RA-Process, Part 2
This session focuses on Risk Estimation and Risk Evaluation as a pivotal part of the Risk Assessment process. It introduces severity of consequence and probability of occurrence as the two key elements of risk. The session further explains the different evaluation methods such as risk matrix, numerical scoring, and risk graph.

Session 6 – RA-Process, Part 3
This session covers Risk Reduction Measures, the final step in the Risk Assessment process. It introduces the iterative approach of initial risk estimation/evaluation, risk reduction, and follow-up assessment. The session further explains the risk reduction hierarchy of risk elimination, design measures, and administrative measures.

Session 7 – Documentation
This session will first recap some important Risk Assessment aspects import for the creation of a comprehensive Risk Assessment Report. The attendee will get an understanding of what mandatory and what optional content needs to be included in such a RAR (Risk Assessment Report). Lastly the session will look into various forms of these reports including some real-world examples.
